CLASH OF CLANS AUGUST UPDATE BRINGS 4 GAME CHANGES

After an idle month of communication and updates in July, the Clash of Clans development team returned with four in-game balancing changes. The update which went live in the game on August 25th, was the precursor to a much larger update coming later this year.
Below is a description and breakdown of each of the four changes.

Healers trigger air traps (once again)

This is by far the change that impacts the most players and high level attack strategies. Reversing a change that the team made almost two years, Healers will not trigger air bombs and mines. A max air bomb does 173 damage, while the air mine delivers a 2,000-point damage death blow. The max level Healer only has 1,176 hit points.

The change was a direct attempt to limit and weaken walk style attack strategies. The most popular of the group is the Archer Queen Walk, which typically starts at Town Hall 9. A staple of farming at high levels, and the first phase of many war strategies, this will be a new hurdle most players didn’t see coming (and weren’t asking for).

Whether doing the Queen walk, or a bowler walk, knowing that one air mine could derail your entire attack players have two options. First, bring 1-2 extra healers in case one from the original set goes down; however, this forces the player to lose part of their larger army. Second, plan for a shorter Queen Walk, as she will eventually encounter an air trap.

Cannon’s Gain Power

The second change sees cannons level 11 through 14 gain a damage increase. The team didn’t reveal the specific number increase for each level, but the damage per shot has gone up. This change is intended slow down mass attacks – bowlers, miners, valkyries, or giants. An interesting note here, is that the cannon adjustment is only a short term solution. The development team announced they are working on ‘a better defensive answer to mass-attacks’. What this building or trap looks like is anyone’s guess, but it is very likely that it will be a part of the Fall or Winter 2016 update.

Miner’s Will Move Slower (but that helps them)

The miner unit will now move slower while underground. Their attack speed while above ground has not been changed. While the miner is underground they are fully protected from all defenses. Thus this is actually a boost to the miner as it allows defenses to retarget and the rest of the attacking army a chance to catch up with them. If you were finding success with the mass miner attack, no changes should be needed.

Eagle Artillery will remain idle longer

The number of troops that you can deploy before the Eagle Artillery activates has been increased from 150 to 180. Now attackers can add an extra 30 troops to the first phase of their attack without having the deal with the massive damage dealt by the eagle. Use that extra camp capacity to help reach and destroy the Eagle Artillery before it ever activates!
