Builder Base 2 & 3 Tips for Attacking, Defending & Upgrading
The landscape of how Clash of Clans is viewed now and in the future was dramatically changes with the introduction of the Builder Base. For the casual player, the Builder Base offers a fun, secondary game to battle head to head in base design and attacking with new troop types.
However, for the more dedicated Clasher, clan war enthusiast or trophy pusher, this new world offers endless possibilities. Increased focus on defensive layout, base customization, and a global ranking system are just a few of the exciting new things the Builder Base brings to Clash of Clans. For today, we will focus on how to upgrade, attack and defend while at Builder Base level 2 and level 3.
Builder Base Level 2 Upgrading
At level 2 you unlock 7 new buildings. First drop your Star Laboratory so can begin upgrading troops while leveling up your base. Once your builder is available add the Archer Tower and then the Double Cannon. Wait until your three defenses (cannon from the start) are active before you begin battling again.
From there add and upgrade your push trap, builder barracks, and then resource collectors. Collectors and Mines are not as critical as they are in the Home Base, since the majority of resources come from your three daily victories.
Builder Base Level 2 Attacking
At builder hall level 2 the Boxer Giant is unlocked; however, the majority of battles can be won with barbarians and archers still. Focus on upgrading both before spending resources on the giants. Use the scouting minute and the full battle time if needed. First, scout which outside buildings can be picked off with archers and the cloak ability. Clear a path for the barbarians to push towards the Builder Hall. Typically, two-star attacks will prove victorious.
Builder Base Level 2 Defending
At level 2 the Archer Tower is the most important building. Keep the tower switched to the long-range attack in order to protect a large portion of your base. Position walls and non-defensive buildings to ensure that the cannons and tower are not the first thing an archer can reach. Leaving a one space gap with the jump trap will misplace units which are dropped to close to the opening and following the easy path inside.
Builder Base Level 3 Upgrading
Level three will take about twice as long to max out compared to level two. As such it is important to add buildings in the best order. You will be matched against other base level threes, so you need to quickly get the troop capacity to compete. Add the elixir and gold storage to allow the space needed to get additional army camp. Next focus on adding the firecrackers (to halt minion raids) and upgrade your barracks (to unlock the minion). In the final wave, add the Crusher to help ward off mass barbarian raids.
Builder Base Level 3 Attacking
The addition of minions creates a new strategy to pick up percentage points and help path towards the Builder Hall. Again, take time to analyze the base. Which buildings are far enough outside that a minion can destroy them? Are any defenses on the edge that 2 archers with their cloaks can take out? What buildings need to be cleared out so the barbarians have a chance to push to the Builders Hall?
If going against a Crusher, completely avoid sending ground troops near it. Similarly, if the firecrackers are central, only use minions to pick off select outside buildings. Focus on how to get two stars, which will win the majority of battles. The most frequently used attack will be using individual archers or minions (based on the base layout) to clear outside buildings for both percentage points and to create a path towards the Builder Hall. Then sending in a wave of barbarians, with a scout unit ahead first to check for bombs and traps.
Builder Base Level 3 Defending
Knowing how players will attack at level 3, helps dictate how the defensive design should be determined. Considering these four items when creating a level 3 base:
- Avoid minions being able to take our your Builder Hall by putting the Archer Tower on one side and the firecrackers on the other.
- Place non-defensive structures outside of your defensive structures to prevent the attack from being able to take them out with sneaky archer snipper attacks.
- Ground troops will avoid the Crusher, so place bombs and traps on the other side of the base.
- Watch your replays! Understanding how attacks feel like they can (or do) beat your base gives you ideas on where to shift buildings or traps, and how to move walls to adjust their pathing.
Best of luck and happy clashing!
